So I was in the classroom today and I heard the saddest thing. I was playing with some of the girls in the class with some play dough and sometimes the tops are hard to get off. One of the students was having a hard time and so she kept saying that she couldn't get it off. I then encouraged her to use her strong muscles to which she replied, " I can't have muscles." I asked why not and she simply stated that girls can't have muscles. One of the paras and I immediately looked at each other, disheartened to hear that she full heartedly believes this. When we questioned her further on why she thinks that way, she told us that her sister told her that fact and that only men can have big muscles. We then tried to reinforce in her that she can have muscles if she wanted and that not only guys have big muscles. It was a very sad and disheartening thing to hear.
